Gerhard Theewen once asked us which artists we would like to forge. To me that was Barnett Newman, but then I also stated that I found myself uncapable. The thing I very deeply admire about him is his ability to not depict something but to put the spectator into a situation. There is not only something to see but it's rather like meeting somebody or going on a journey. I had the strangest sensation in front of his Prometheus Bound, somehow I was Prometheus stuck in this awful situation and still somewhere on the horizon there was this little streak of hope.
