What Ends We've Come To

Unreasonable and irresposible people like me feeling compelled not only to call out for reason, but also to employ it, since it feels like we are the only people having a grasp on it.

Sobering

As I was chasing the flies, who had become a pest thanks to some local Dutch poultry farmer, with a vacuum cleaner, I discovered that I have neither a talent nor a taste for cold blooded, premeditated murder.

Parergon

There needs to be a consensus in order for the absurd to be able to happen without becoming utter cruelty.

Nackedness can imply innocence.

It's always the eye of the beholder that errs or sins.

Wild and Provocative

Maybe it has always been like this: The most provocative is the person, who follows his or her vocation no matter what. Then you will be able to even provoke the provocative, or to surprise the civil servant at the registry office (and me!).

As I was standing in line waiting to register myself, the man in front of me requested a Police Clearance Certificat. The civil servant replied that there were two different ones and since the applicant did not know which one was the correct, the civil servant asked him what exactly he needed it for. The man paused a moment and then replied that he wanted to enter a monastery, which dumbfounded both me and the civil servant.

An-archy - Now!

a translation of this eight-year-old post

If I understand Emmanuel Levinas correctly, then an-archy is the before ("an-") original ("archos") and if we take a scholastic point of view, then the (act/god of) creation is the origin of the origin.
Anyway recently I've come to realize that a little bit of anarchy can be an unendingly wonderful humus for creative activities - whoever this anarchist at the beginning was, he has done a really, really wonderfully good job - just as the opposite, namely rigid control and bigoted behaviour, is alas confining and destructive.

Langmut

longanimity

Once again today I realized that I am living in the so-called red zone, the land inbetween  the Rhine and the Meuse, because it takes more than two hours to get the circa eighty kilometres to Cologne by train.

Yet it suits the artist in me well, things never ought to be too easy...

Besides I love this place for the combines the very best of so many cultures.

Vox Vocis

Vocation - but who is calling?!

Damned - for every little devil or ideology to fill in - if you cannot make up your mind and leave this space void.

Encounters P.S.

When this happened my younger daughter, who was with me, turned to me for an explanation of what just happened. I told her that it was just this. I have long stopped wondering at the why and indeed welcomed whatever may come my way.

Not Funny

"Fun I love, but too much fun is of all things the most loathsome. Mirth is better than fun, and happiness is better than mirth. I feel that a man may be happy in this world." - William Blake

Encounters on the Beach

He was walking along in the rain uttering:"I am an anarchist!" As I grinned my approval from safe haven of my beach chair, he pointed to the two women following him:"I just wanted them to be aware of it."

Odd One Out

There is this lovely documentary about several Muslim women from Molenbeek, who had never been in other parts of Belgium except Brussels. So they undertake this journey...

"Vive ma liberté. Pour toi et le monde entier"

If anybody wonders after watching the trailer: They made it to New York in a collective effort!

I will be back in two weeks' time!

The Space II

between us. Nowadays more and more defined by the earbud.  I used to laugh at it and though I liked to wonder about hearing and overhearing people. The present is vanishing in so many senses of the word, probably in all. People calling loudly "Hello", me turning my head and realizing they were talking to their phone, which will most likely end in me not reacting to calls any more eventually.

When will we again claim each other's horizon?!
