Confusion

Never confuse loving and enjoying.

The Wild Thing

When as a child I realised that my teachers, educators, grandparents probably had not lived according to their humane teachings, it made me root for the wild thing of not acting according to their actions but rather insanely trying to act according to their teachings.

Sanity

How if you can only watch and behold the great train wreck...

Cassandra

"It's common insane."

Geliebter Chaot

Sometimes my heart rejoices when watching people that have realized what it is to be human to the fullest extent. Funny, how every utterance, every action resonates within me. How it echoes my emotions and makes me open up and most of all anticipate.

A Wide Difference or a Thin Line

"...I was taught of your chaste daughter the wide difference twixt amorous and villainous." - Cymbeline, William Shakespeare

Sometimes this wide difference is but marked by a pretty thin line.

Be careful to heed it.

Jan van Eyck, the master of the very thin line, apparently achieved it by applying watercolour onto oil paint.

If you but admit space you might experience depth.

Rebellion

One of the heroes of my rebellious youth - Matt Johnson and The The...

The piano solo is by Jools Holland, who celebrates his birthday today.

The final sentence translated:"Now that's just what I hate about Jools Holland!" ;)

Theater

Theater                                                Theater

Ik neem je mee                                    I take you
achter het toneel                                  backstage
waar de spelers kontknijpen                where the actors pinch asses
kaarten                                                 play cards
beursberichten lezen                            read stock market reports
in het stof staren                                  stare at the dust
yoga doen                                            do yoga
hoesten achter hun hand.                     cough behind their hands.

Waar ze tussen twee levens                 Where they between two lives
geen enkele rol vervullen                     fulfill no single role
en toch op hun plek zijn.                      and yet are spot-on.

Op die plek                                           On that spot
tussen opkomen en afschminken          between entrance and removing one's
                                                               make-up
tussen dollen en douchen                      between romping and taking a shower
horen ook wij thuis.                               we too belong.

monden om te spreken                           mouths to speak
maar nog niet...                                      but not yet...

Fascination - Infatuation

Sometimes people are so much fascinated by something that they get infatuated - which could prove to be fatal.

By the way there is no sense in reasoning with them.

Idolatry

Agony

"...bear it out even to the edge of doom..." William Shakespeare

If we were but a little bit vulnerable or less perfect, maybe we could learn to care (for each other).

Bauchgefühl - Gut Feeling

"Bauch" being the "belly" though. You might follow your gut instinct. And the umbilical cord is the first item that truly connects a person with another.

Oddly and miraculously sometimes it translates how much guts it takes to get up there in front and do your thing. And yet it is infectious.

Put a Name on It

Something upsetting is to talk about people like they are a simulacrum - only a representation of whatever concept somebody is referring to like nationality, ethnicity or gender.

A person is a person is a person....

Creativity

Rudi Vranckx, now a renowned war correspondent, once worked at an office and the work was so boring that he used to go to the toilet, where he had long sessions just sitting there. He even built himself towers made of toilet paper rolls to rest his head on.

Sweet Memories

The moment I knew that I wanted Jochen Zellmann to teach me about art was when a fellow student came up to him and stated that he had troubles with the concept of being creative as an artist. The whole concept was too voguish to him and he abhorred it. Then Jochen Zellman turned to him talking about being creative - in German "schöpfen". This word also means to scoop. Thus within a second Zellmann was describing an earth oven and how one has to scoop food out of it. The image of this pretty basic and elementary and basically necessary action continues to stay with me.

Association has become so important.

Little Souvenirs

As apparently a generation dies away, like my professor Jochen Zellman I can't but remember. For example when we wanted to cross the Canale Grande and all the bridges were very far away and he wasn't that good at walking long distances anymore. So there suddenly appeared that one solution, a sign leading us through narrow places, down dark passages, us wondering if we are lost, when suddenly the scenery opens up and there is the traghetto, a gondola for everyone, cheap and wonderful - and something the two of us now shared.

Categorical

There is no escaping though some might intellectually prefer to cooly and coldly watch from an alien and detached standpoint. Nolens volens you are involved.

Miracles and Wonders

"...Everybody  and everything is the "fat lady". The "fat lady" is actually...God, yes. - Actually God? - Yes. - The one who helps you to concentrate on what it is you are doing..."

Epiphanias or Twelfth Night

With one day delay we will be walking the streets as star singers.

It's also the title of one of Shakespeare's comedies.

Caritas

Climbing to some cabin in the Tyrolean Alps all the while being greeted in the kindest direct way abolishing the formal German "Sie", using the immediate local dialect.

Deserted places teach the necessity to communicate, for one's very life, survival and well-being might depend on it. Here there is instant bonding.
