Mirror, Mirror On the Wall

Some people constantly check the mirror because they so much like what they see, whereas others are simply insecure.

So mirror, mirror what kind of beholder is the one who blushes?!

The best compliment I ever got:

"You're so sweet because you do not know how beautiful you are."

Some Twenty Years Ago

The mirror went all red...

Private or Intimate

The space that I need is not exactly private or set apart, but something that is intimate. Not something closed up, but some place I could open up to whomever I choose. It's all about relationship. The mystery of the disclosure.

Drill II

the darker side

Drill

As they were never actually given the means to grasp any technique or art, they had to settle to entertain the spectators by jumping through the hoop.

Fingerzeig - Zeigefinger

Interesting that "pointer" is suggested as a translation for both expressions, but then again a "Fingerzeig" or hint could be pointed out by the "Zeigefinger" or trigger finger.

And so it's my dear facebook acquaintance Mr Paul, who points somewhere, that has been on my mind for some time now. And he is a member of Triggerfinger.

By the way love their new song!

Luurefupp

A pet name my parents and grandparents gave to me. "Luure" means "to look".

Perception

So me and my companion were walking in the street, when all of a sudden I dash forward and pick something up. My companion is very bewildered and surprised by my action, but then I show her the necklace that had been lying there.

O Rare One III

It's quite fantastic to watch somebody or somebody's eyes watching mostly somebody else and by doing this taking in every little detail of his partner. It gets even weirder if this is done on screen and I am watching again this person watching.

I love it.

Reputation

Ist der Ruf erst ruiniert, lebt sich's völlig ungeniert. Or in other words:

The White Cube

So last night I dreamed about meeting people quite important to me personally. Some I did know, some I didn't actually. We were all sitting quite casually on the floor of some white cubical room with our backs against  three walls. The fourth side was just a huge window.

Simple

There just might be a point in attacking a movie because it is too simple, but I wonder if that applies to truth. The truth in this case was that some of the characters had peace in their hearts and desired peace and nothing could be plainer and simpler. Yet the consequences they suffered and were willing to suffer for this simple truth weren't. One of them actually ended up between all lines.

Aba Lewit's message is also pretty simple: "You should consider that they are human beings...It doesn't matter if black or brown or red, I'm referring to the looks. He is a human being. He possesses a soul." Yet think about it and maybe this will blow your mind...

Honi soit qui mal y pense.

It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it.

Oh the Laughter, Oh the Adventure

So yet again we waited to be picked up and learned that something went wrong, it is either the wrong time or the wrong place, and it is usually the other party that is wrong about something because they had been too confident 😉.

Or maybe it is karma, just like on our honeymoon, when we touched down in Ibiza, it was raining and we were told that it had been raining for 48 hours now and that it will stop pretty soon because it never rains any longer. Well, it rained on for a whole week and even the river Santa Eularia was carrying water, something it had not done for at least a decade according to some local people. And yet again this is definitely the spice of life: Expect the unexpected.

Beautiful

Misconception II

A classmate of my son, whom I had taken home, later commented to him, that he believed that I did not like him; and my son told me about this. As I was beginning to protest, my son went on saying: "I told him he was wrong because: My mother loves everybody." 😉

I guess there is something likeable in almost everybody and sometimes even the most perfect characters like Posthumus from Shakespeare's Cymbeline lack something, and it takes a damn lot for them to finally learn, like in his case trust and mercy.

Misconception

It's quite a fallacy to believe that limits or limitation is bad for creativity. In fact the more limits there are, the more one has to exercise once imagination.

Once Max Kobbert, a professor of psychology, told us about an experiment he had taken part in. He was put into a dark and silent place for several hours. This was of course terrifying at first, but after some time imagination set in and he was beginning to see patterns, which grew ever more elaborate.

This sort of reminded me of Stefan Zweig's Schachnovelle or The Royal Game.

Besieged

When almost ten years ago a policemen was shot in his leg in a bus and the armed shooter got away, and the power reacted powerful: Errecting roadblocks, circling with two helicopters.

All the time I was hoping and praying that the criminal had more (common) sense and had run away as fast and far as possible, especially since the Dutch border was only a kilometer away. And thank God he actually had. The Dutch police arrested him in a flat in Roermond.

Urgent

O Rare One

"Be not, as in our fangled world, a garment
Nobler than that it covers. Let thy effects
So follow, to be most unlike our courtiers,
As good as promise." - Cymbeline

O Rare One

The Gentlest Kiss

Lately I've befriended a butterfly, a small tortoiseshell, or rather, since I have no say in this, it has chosen me as a friend. When it landed on my forehead just at the hair line and stayed there a while, it felt like the gentlest kiss.

The Democratic Emotion

"But the thing which is really required for the proper working of democracy is not merely the democratic system, or even the democratic philosophy, but the democratic emotion. The democratic emotion, like most elementary and indispensable things, is a thing difficult to describe at any time. But it is peculiarly difficult to describe in our enlightened age, for the simple reason that it is peculiarly difficult to find it. It is a certain instinctive attitude which feels the things in which all men agree to be unspeakably important, and all things in which they differ (such as mere brains) to be almost unspeakably unimportant." - Chesterton, Heretics, Slum Novelists and the Slums

Peek-a-Boo - Pleasently Disappointed

Fremdschämen - to feel ashamed for somebody else

So I learn that somebody I admire as an actor has recorded a song and the title of the song  suggests a typical German Schlager - something full of stupid bathos that is unbearable. Yet like any train crash there is also a tantalizing temptation that urges one to look. And then all of a sudden the great disappointment arrives because though the lyrics and the song are as imagined or even worse, the voice is great and beautiful.
