Pilgerfahrt eines Gläubigen - Pilgrimage of a Believer

In his travel report "Zwischen drei Welten. Pilgerfahrt eines Gläubigen/Inbetween three worlds. Pilgrimage of a believer" Rudolf Lothar describes an encounter he had while traveling to Italy and what came of it. A man who was also on his way to Italy and who had been there already warned him against being to careless with his money because Italians were thieves. Lothar who was an easy-going person did not heed this. The evening before he boarded a ship in Genua he went to a local restaurant and later on already on the ship he discovered that a substantial amount of his money was missing. When after a cruise of the Mediterranean he returned to Genua he decided to go to the restaurant again to confront the people with his loss. Yet as soon as he entered he was greeted by the waiter, who had recognised him. He immedialy told Lothar of the money he had forgotten and safely returned it to him at once. This made Lothar ponder about how peolpe react to one another and he was sure that just because he was a trustful person people reacted with trust.
