Conversations

So at the weekend sitting in the anteroom at the physician's I had a conversation with a 79-year-old former British soldier. "I am a Brexit victim.", he said. And then he began wondering what the UK would be doing to be great once again. A little bit sarcastically he suggested: "Moving back into the colonies and enslaving the population once again?!" - He himself had been stationed in Mozambique, where a 12-year-old with an ancient rifle tried to attack his unit. "We fired a signal rocket at him, which made him run. None of us would have been able to shoot him. It was only a child." - On the same day my husband told me of a soldier who actually had done it. He had been shot in the shoulder by a boy and then he fired back and killed him. Something that has been haunting him ever since.
