Fancy
When I imagine meeting somebody I most definitely like and then fancy having the courage to somehow shyly look into this person's eyes while shaking my head and smiling. I can`t believe that somebody like you exists and dares.
Take it all in with my eyes, as they encircle.

Conversations
So at the weekend sitting in the anteroom at the physician's I had a conversation with a 79-year-old former British soldier. "I am a Brexit victim.", he said. And then he began wondering what the UK would be doing to be great once again. A little bit sarcastically he suggested: "Moving back into the colonies and enslaving the population once again?!" - He himself had been stationed in Mozambique, where a 12-year-old with an ancient rifle tried to attack his unit. "We fired a signal rocket at him, which made him run. None of us would have been able to shoot him. It was only a child." - On the same day my husband told me of a soldier who actually had done it. He had been shot in the shoulder by a boy and then he fired back and killed him. Something that has been haunting him ever since.

Haltung/ Composure
dedicated to Durs Grünbein, who gave me trouble because he wouldn't fit into the frame of my paper because of his posture, but then it was exactly this, the attitude of openess in the eye of the strangest debate ever, that intrigued me.
I will work on it...

Tutti Fratelli
What if we lived in times where only the ones that usually and by own choice only wander on the edges - the artists, introverts and dreamers - will be called upon to save civilisation from falling apart?!

Stronger
"Aus großer Kraft springt Transparenz./ Out of great strength bursts transparency/lucency." - Magniloquentia Volkskind
It becomes ever so clear and obvious that even though the violent and fervent people possess great strength, there is a greater strength and energy in those who are peaceful and serene. - A smile conquers the frown.

Klid
As I was looking for the meaning of the Czech word "klid" from this quote, it dawned upon me that this could become a new favourite word to me for it encompasses a variety of meanings, that is very appealing and dear to me: peace, serenity, repose, rest, ease, calm, calmness, composure, equanimity, quiet, tranquility, still, stillness, standstill, stand, quietness, quiescence, quiescency, coolness, imperturbability and most surprisingly also countenance.
Most probably
a dedication by Rudolf Lothar - Actually at the time there was no other copy of "König Harlekin" available.

Pilgerfahrt eines Gläubigen - Pilgrimage of a Believer
In his travel report "Zwischen drei Welten. Pilgerfahrt eines Gläubigen/Inbetween three worlds. Pilgrimage of a believer" Rudolf Lothar describes an encounter he had while traveling to Italy and what came of it. A man who was also on his way to Italy and who had been there already warned him against being to careless with his money because Italians were thieves. Lothar who was an easy-going person did not heed this. The evening before he boarded a ship in Genua he went to a local restaurant and later on already on the ship he discovered that a substantial amount of his money was missing. When after a cruise of the Mediterranean he returned to Genua he decided to go to the restaurant again to confront the people with his loss. Yet as soon as he entered he was greeted by the waiter, who had recognised him. He immedialy told Lothar of the money he had forgotten and safely returned it to him at once. This made Lothar ponder about how peolpe react to one another and he was sure that just because he was a trustful person people reacted with trust.

Der Ton macht die Musik
So today I lost a friend. He was complaining that people wouldn't return his salute no matter what language he used, either German or Arab. Judging from the way he virtually left me and why - because he drew conclusions that weren't intended and I had hit a nerve - , I'm pretty sure I know why he wasn`t greeted, it's not only what you say but more how you say things and people are sensitive enough to hear the actual intention and return the compliments by ignoring him.

Artistic Freedom
So I was asked during my exam at the academy in Münster what I would do if I were asked to do an art installation. My answer was that I would go and have a look at the place and if I came up with a suitable idea I would do it and if not I wouldn't - simply like that. So it's definitely part of my artistic freedom - as I suppose any artist should exercise - to do nothing.
It may sometimes seem like cold-shouldering, but to me for example this is certainly the part of my body I most hate to get cold. If artists exercise their right to not act, please do not get them wrong, it's simply that they rather do nothing than something mediocre.

Some Kind of Honour
"the biggest one they fear is that precious thing you got"
When the tabloids use all their venom in their smear campaign. It must be a pretty precious thing...
A Quote I've Read Today
„Musím z tebe brát sílu, energii, klid.“ - "I must take strength, energy and peace from you." - I definitely do echo its meaning. There is strength, energy and peace to be had.

Things We've Lost
Back in the1920s in his book "Zwischen drei Welten/ Inbetween Three Worlds" Rudolph Lothar could still rejoice in having again the ability to travel and work, especially having the opportunity to work made him feel deeply grateful...
Measure for Measure
In fairy tales there is sometimes this puzzling moment when the perpetrator gets confronted with his or her own deeds and passes a harsh judgement that will be used against them.
The two things that bewilder are: First that they do not recognize themselves and secondly that they show no compassion, but then those are probably the traits to make them perfect villains - not being able to reflect and knowing no mercy.

Pigeonhole
I did not like him as a person and the way he thought - my Biology teacher. One of his teachings was that people pigeonhole complete strangers at first sight. So my inner quest to disprove him was born - the only valid pigeonhole is human being.

Speak To Me II
Change!
There are some wonderful benefits to the ensemble theatre, something we have to afford before we all become lone fighters only self-promoting - enactors of the inner void.

Misapprehension
My reply to somebody who was convinced that Edward de Vere wrote Shakespeare's plays:
Well, then good luck to you! You see, I'm very interested in phenomenology and this whole matter is very intriguing if viewed as a phenomenon rather than as a hunt for whatever strange "truth", I personally prefer fact. Like in reader-response criticism this issue tells more about those people, who raise it, than of any fact. For we can never really know and who cares any way?! It be a thoroughly laughable farce, if not somehow the view is sustained that only excellent people - and here are meant those excelling by birth (and education) - can produce excellence. If I'd use a nice term I would label it elitist. (a not so nice term would be chauvinist)

The Difference
Behold
The difference between an artist and a not artist can never be made out by his or her biography :-). What distinguishes them is not what happens to them but in which way they perceive it, and dare to express it. Why cannot a boy from a small town do this?!

The Big Refute
Che Fece...Il Gran Refiuto
by Constantine P. Cavafy
For some people the day comes
when they have to declare the great Yes
or the great No. It's clear at once who has the Yes
ready with him; and saying it,
he goes from honour to honour, strong in his conviction.
He who refuses does not repent. Asked again,
he'd still say no. Yet that no - the right no -
drags him down all life.

Cling To
What's "normal" nowadays anyway?! And how is this affecting the sense of humour?!
Once Moritz, a Belgian exchange student, was staying in my family; and on a certain evening he went to a restaurant and a disco with his fellow students while my daughter had to stay at home to learn for a test. When he returned he had the nerve to ask me if my daughter had had dinner at home. I looked quite sharply into her direction and replied: "Who her? - No!" I've never experienced somebody looking so sorry at somebody else since. There was real concern for my daughter in Moritz' eyes. And then we both, my daughter and me, started to laugh. It actually used to be so common that parents feed there children that Jesus referenced this - "If your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?" - Who could actually tell nowadays. Probably something that people would discuss seriously.

How are you going to deal with it all - the homesickness, the fact that you no longer belong, the fact you've lost your innocence, that even tools have lost theirs; and the guilt?!

Synchronicity or Coincidence
which is about the same phenomenon.
At noon I was thinking about love, especially about blindness and love jotting down some sentences on a piece of paper:
Love makes you see clearly, even the short-comings in the loved one, even those that make one say: I know you and I know that you can do much better; but rest assured this would never change my love.
And in the evening I got this quote by Chesterton in my timeline: "Love is not blind; that is the last thing that it is. Love is bound; and the more it is bound the less it is blind."
And this morning I was stunned by a facebook-friend of mine, who in a television program that was broadcast last night, was talking about this song and its blind writer and singer.
