Topsyturvy

The terrible power of love: to be able to turn everything upside down. And there is no escaping it - the Harlequins of Love ;).

Determination

And yet there can also be a determined attitude to life that wouldn't fit Alan Watts' view, that is if you've got the strange idea that you've got a soul.

"One way or another it don't really matter I just gotta set my goal and satisfy my soul."

as a small post scriptum: a song for the happy nihilist

Metaphor and Fallacy

I couldn't help but feel that there could be a quite different way to read the metaphor as life being a journey. It has probably got to do with one's attitude to what a journey actually is. If one sees a journey as a means to reach a goal this Watts' reading might be true, but I rather hold the odd perspective that a journey will take you some places that aren't preconceived. At least I would not undertake the effort if it only takes me some place I had an exact idea of. A journey could be so much more than a means to some end. And a way to understand what it could mean to expect the unexpected.

Artful Relativity

"And you, eminent scientists, will tell me that 6 isn't 9. And I will say 'When  with a little kick I upend a 6 that makes 9.', and when you tell me '6 and 8 make 14', I will reply that 6 and 8 make 68, in this case, Mesdames and Messieurs, all is relativity." - James Ensor

"The One You Want the Most

...is the hardest to be had."

Truth is that I often shy away from the people I'm interested in.

Yet once the ice is broken - and it may take years -...

Sensation

"Sensation?

"Sensation? What isn't all subsumed by this term! It is the bride of poetry, the companion of journalism and the whore of greed of gain. When poetry intensifies, draws the elixir of surprise from the seemingly ordinary, tightens up dramatic suspense in the weary mundane life, then it creates with artifice: sensation, the primary, the stirred up depth." - from "The Flowers of Terror" by Rochus Spiecker
